And now for something completely different (again), an early R & B piece from the 20's. I have to admit that it took me a while before I could sing this song without either breaking out into laughter or sarcastic comments, but now that I'm over that, I find it quite enjoyable to sing. The ending is a little wimpy, but I'm otherwise fairly happy with this. (I'm feeling a certain perverse pride that I can now vocalize loud enough to overwhelm the mic on occasion. ;-) )

In old Savannah
I said Savannah
The weather there is nice and warm
The climate's of the Southern brand
But here's what I don't understand
They've got a gal there
A pretty gal there
Who's colder than an arctic storm
Got a heart just like a stone
Even ice men leave her alone.
They call her
Hard-hearted Hannah
The Vamp of Savannah
The meanest gal in town
Leather is tough, but Hannah's heart is tougher
She's a gal who loves to see men suffer
To tease them and thrill them
To torture and kill them
Is her delight, they say
I saw her at the seashore with a great big pan
There was Hannah, pouring water on a drowning man
She's hard-hearted Hannah
The Vamp of Savannah, GA
You oughta see her,
You oughta see her,
Outside she's just as soft as silk,
But socially, she's hard as nails,
She's just a gal who hates the males,
And when she's nasty,
Oh, when she's nasty,
She's 'bout as sweet as sour milk,
Nothing she likes better than
Feeding poisoned food to a man.
They call her hard-hearted Hannah,
The Vamp of Savannah
The meanest gal in town
Talk of your cold, refrigerating mamas;
Brother, she's the polar bear's pajamas
To tease them and thrill them
To torture and kill them
Is her delight, they say
An evening spent with Hannah sitting on your knees
Is like traveling through Alaska in your BVD's
She's hard-hearted Hannah
The Vamp of Savannah, GA

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
A lot of great music is in that book, even though it's big and clunky; it's nice to bring back memories. :-)

Great work, brother! The way you move behind that piano just completes the whole thing!

I'm still rather insecure about my singing abilites, so comments like yours make my day. Thank you! :-)

Cool, where did you find the music...it's a great number!

Thank you! It's in a book called "100 Best Songs of the 20's and 30's" which I bought from the local library a number of years back.
