The 2009 U.S. Chess Championship was held at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis in its inaugural year. Returning to this year's competition was the 2008 Champion, Yury Shulman, along with fellow Grandmasters Gata Kamsky, Hikaru Nakamura, and Alexander Onischuk. Newcomers Robert Hess, age 17, and Ray Robson, age 14, both make their first U.S. Championship appearances.

Changing of the Guard offers a unique and in-depth look into the minds of some of the world's finest chess players as they battle for the title.

  • most excellent! thanks! I was able to attend 2009 tournament and loved the close up action, the commentary, the monitors of the games in different rooms, the area and the weather.

  • nakamura is very arrogant

  • Wow. I was on the fence about this video. I mean, chess videos are typically boring. After watching this trailer, I'm ordering it.

Sorry Jack, Happy to see Nakamura in it, he did win after all.

  • Good job! Krush was definitely right about the same players competing year after year. It was routinely boring for about 20 years. Last year was an exciting mix of players. I was there to witness it. The Sinquefields have done a great job!

  • oooo looks cool

too bad Nakamura is in it :P
