Set in the west-side of Los Angeles fight world, a world inhabited by bouncers, cage-fighters, cops and special forces types, Redbelt, is the story of Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a Jiu-Jitsu teacher who has avoided the prize fighting circuit, choosing instead to pursue an honorable life by operating a self-defense studio with a samurai's code.

Terry and his wife Sondra (Alice Braga), struggle to keep the business running to make ends meet. An accident on a dark, rainy night at the Academy between an off duty officer (Max Martini) and a distraught lawyer (Emily Moritimer) puts in motion a series of events that will change Terry's life dramatically introducing him to a world of promoters (Ricky Jay, Joe Mantegna) and movie star Chet Frank (Tim Allen). Faced with this, in order to pay off his debts and regain his honor, Terry must step into the ring for the first time in his life.

  • one of the BEST movies i watched!

  • Never Back Down. The concept of that movie is so lame. I suppose I shouldn't judge it since I haven't seen it. But high school kids, engaging in underground mixed martial art tournaments? The filmmakers should be ashamed of themselves for glamouring it.

Martial arts can be practiced as an art or a means of self defense. To know its being exploited in some warped and cheesy morality tale in Hollywood makes me sick to my stomach.

  • @IchibanNo01 I see where you're coming from with regard to "cheesy morality tale(s) in Hollywood...", but, why don't you watch the film first before you decide that it fits your shrink-wrap critique? I think this film was made by thoughtful and responsible people and we should hesitate before we judge them on the way that the film they've made is marketed; something they'd barely have control over themselves. I think you might be doing yourself a disservice to miss this film.

  • @jeric240 I have watched it! Well, you are right but Never Back Down doesn't talk about a real martial art and its phylosophy. The guy just needed to learn how to fight to beat up the bad guy and save the oneshe loves~~~. You know the classic bullshit. What I want to say is you can't compare the 2 movie, Never Back Down doesn't even talk about martial arts, just a fighting club.

  • the story is lame but the fight sence are the best i've ever seen in a hollywood film

  • I Wanna see this MOvie.. . hmm.. They probably Won't show it on TV. so I might have to get the DVD .. . .

  • @jeric240 Never back down has pretty much the same story line as the karate kid... The kid moved then started to be bullied... then they train to fight in a tournament to stop being bullied... Never back down is a modern version of the Karate Kid

  • I bought red belt for like 2.99 by chance at blockbuster and brought home a pearl
