  • @felixjazzage Oh yeah, I saw Doc Savage at the cinema when I was about 8. It was on a double bill with 'Warlords of Atlantis' - I'm aware of the pulp novels but have never read any of them. I quite like that ere of fiction, Conan, Kull, Solomon Kane, John Carter etc. I understand it's a campy film, was always desperate to see the sequel, sadly never made.

Supposedly, Moore based Ozymandias on Thunderbolt, and obscure 1960s comic character, but I've seen a few of those comics, and, really, the connection doesn't seem as strong as the Doc one.

"Doc Savage" is a really campy, jokey sort of film, so it's not going to be for all tastes; it's a lot like the 1960s Batman TV show. There are the original novels still in print (from the 1930s and 1940s), but you may not have the patience to read through them. DC and some other comic publishers put out some Doc Savage comics, & there may be some of them online, which could be a quick way to see what the character was. When I read "Watchmen" for the 1st time, I smiled. (-:

  • @felixjazzage Wow! I never considered that! It does make sense. And Watershipdown - you rock for putting this together, I didn't fancy watching the whole film - just the best bits, so I'm glad I found this!

I'm fairly sure Alan Moore had Doc Savage in mind when he created Ozymandias for the Watchmen series. There are just too many similarities, so Ozymandias is really like an amoral or perhaps sociopathic version of Doc.

  • Is this movie available on DVD ??

  • Fuck, this guy is like Ozymandias!
