http://www.scottsbasslessons.com. FREE BASS LESSONS visit Scott's website There you can view FREE BASS TUTORIALS covering bass soloing - improvisation - walking bass - grooves etc or contact Scott for 1to1 Skype lessons with real time screen sharing and correspondence lessons.

In this tutorial I show you a little chromatic device that you can use to target chord tones while soloing.

Scott has studied with an amazing host of world class musicians including Skuli Sverrisson (Allan Holdsworth), Jeff Andrews, Ralph Alessi, Ravi Coltrane, Brad Shepik and Adam Rogers. He was also lucky enough to study extensively with Gary Willis in Barcelona from 2006 to 2007.

  • Great Scott, im off to the shed:-)

  • @MarloweDK Lol! I'll see ya there ;)

  • Is the beat (weak/strong), on which you land, important? I just wondered as I am only just starting to get this improve lark.

  • @hahabass I don't really think about it. I'd recommend listening to a load of great players, how they improvise and then start trusting your ears. try not to make it too complex for yourself. Good luck!

  • Thanks to this video made by this guy, something just connected in my head and soloing is now making sense.

And for this noble act of just sharing knowledge, helping those who can't afford lessons, a sincere thank you.

    Stay cool ;)

  • Dig the glove man.

  • @hahabass - If you're only just starting and asking this question then you're well on your way. Go to Hal Galper's website - which is his name with a dot com added to the end - then "click" on the column and row on the left that reads "Articles," then "click" on "Understanding Forward Motion" then you're there! Hal Galper is a fantastic musician and educator. I also (highly) recommend checking out his "Hal Galper's Master Class" lectures on YouTube as a companion to Scott's Bass Lessons. Enjoy!

  • thanks!

    very helpful videos

  • @devinebass I only asked as I had read in a Gary Willis book about chord tones on strong beats, but thinking about it now, I think he was talking about walking lines. Thanks for the reply anyhow.
