Butch Thompson Trio plays Jazz Band Ball

Butch Thompson Trio playing the 1918 composition "At The Jazz Band Ball" by La Rocca & Shields. Butch Thompson, probably best known for the years he played piano and clarinet on on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Hometown Companion, adopts for the night here Marty Eggers on bass and Hal Smith on drums. Marty is best known for the years he spent with the San Francisco trio "Bo Grumpus". Hal has worked with almost everybody that's anybody, including Ralph Sutton, Dick Wellstood, and most recently boogie players Ray Skjelbred and Sonny Leeland.

Butch is coming to Mpls MN to play a night for our Twin Cities Jazz festival this Tuesday night. Can't wait! They have decided that the jazz club is having "stride piano night".. Can't wait!

Saw the trio in Juneau, AK and I was able to play piano with Butch during a workshop! Fantastic

I saw the trio about 20 years ago... they still got the Jazz... I love to hear his music

Butch is from another Planet! I saw him almost 20 years ago on Austin City Limits with Chet Atkins and he solo'd on Charleston Rag leaving everybody blown away. He's also a tremendous Clarinetist.
