Yes he was only ever good for short spells, though in this series that probably made him more effective. Hoggy's problem was more attitude than stamina. When things didn't fall his way, Hogg could really lose the plot. I can remember a half-dozen tantrums, such as throwing a punch at Kim Hughes on-field during a Test. Another problem was his age: he wasn't a young man in this series, late 20s or thereabouts, so he only had a short shelf life as an international bowler
Ok..But, its a bit of a shame he did not go on and fill Lillee and Thommo's shoes.
The way Merv Hughes and later McDermott did. This attack wasn't exactly menacing with Lawson and Hurst for support, I presume.
I read somewhere that Hogg was an asthmatic and his stamina let him down on occasions. His action looks very pleasing to the eye though and it appears that he was about as quick as Len Pascoe (mid-late 80s mph).
Nowhere near the "two darned bastards" :-), but still pretty good.
@Imrankniazi He was by far the best bowler in a very weak team. The England team wasn't that strong either but I suspect they were overconfident against the Australians, who had been decimated by World Series Cricket. Hogg took wickets early and effectively had a mental stranglehold over them all series, much like McGrath and Warne would do later.
yeah he was good.. very very fit, relentless with his accuracy. a high percentage of bowled and lbw due to the skidding type of bowler he was. i think he took 5 wickets in an innings 5 times that series

Was Hogg that good? Please let me know. Coz his figures for that series are mind-boggling.
