(Oct. 2) AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Swaziland conducted HIV testing in an outreach tent near the Kwiksave Supermarket in Logoba community, on the outskirts of Manzini.
Of the 106 people who got tested during the 6-hour event, 31 tested preliminary positive and were referred to a clinic for care after testing HIV-positive.
The high rate of HIV prevalence at this outreach event underscores the
challenges of fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic around the world in place like
Swaziland, where over a quarter of the population has HIV, but few are aware
of their positive status. The United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS known by
its acronym UNAIDS, estimates that there are 100,000 women over the age of
15 living with HIV in Swaziland.
