Stephen King thinks military people are stupid

It doesn't really seem like he's calling military people stupid here, per se. Just that it's one of the few jobs that doesn't require you to be literate, and that it's an undesirable job for many people. It was a "if you don't learn to read, you'll end up in the army" kind of thing, like what parents say to scare their kids into getting an education. He never said being in the military didn't require any intelligence, or that they were stupid, or even (neccesarily) uneducated.

That guy with the glasses said we have to read. Boooooo!!

More than 50 books to his name and nearly all of them best sellers? I don't think you get to that point by being a terrible writer.

Ralph Nader in 2000, John Kerry in 2004, Barack Obama in 2008. Hmmm...I don't recall any of those politicians starting a war in Iraq. Kerry maybe contributed with his vote in favor of it, but to put all the blame on him and ignore the fact that it was Bush and the Republicans who STARTED it, well, that's just not very smart. But I have yet to see a single Republican do something that's very smart.

@DrArchivist You're a fucking idiot. The military did NONE of those things, politicians did. The politicians, that you in particular, most likely voted for.

@Peteromich Thanks for replying but my point was that the title was misleading. The video showed him speaking for 20 seconds. You could use 20 seconds of dialogue from anyone and try to manipulate people into thinking that person is comparable to Hitler, etc. It reminds me of a bad political advertisement.

@mufasajosh The context was apparent from the video. If you can read and are literate, you won't have to default into something you won't want to do. You'll have more control of where you end up. Many people in poor communities where dropout rates are highest go into the military as a way out of the ghetto.

I sure would have like to seen more of the video so I could understand the context.

@Al3xstation I really dont have a strong opinion on the subject either way. But what struck me was they way you say you cant bash branches unless you are current or ex military. I believe our constitution/bill of rights says anybody can say/bash anything they want.

Military is a need that every country has. The trouble in the army is - you don't need almost any qualifications to get in, so you can expect many idiots around there.
the title is misleading. he's bashing illiteracy.

@Fedproman
So true. The military is the greatest threat to both our freedoms and well-being. Their constant war making has made us poorer, less safe, and less free. Yet they continue to spout the garbage that they are our protectors.
