****BATTLE STRATEGY****
Sephiroth's Power in Proud Mode is greatly enhanced from his power on Normal Mode. His attacks, variety, and speed are all augmented. Most guides recommend leveling up to at least 90 to even stand a chance. HOWEVER, as long as you have the proper equipment and abilites, you only have to be between level 80-90. Here's a strategy schematic:
OFFENSE: Take the heat to Sephiroth's blazing 12 bars of health with some combo power! A load of combo-boosting abilities and a high attack power keyblade will be most effective. By the end of a combo boosted attack, you'll be chopping roughly half a bar of health off. Be persistent and choose your timing to attack wisely! And also, if he knocks you up into the air, hit the square button to use the Horizontal Slash to build up a massive air combo.
DEFENSE: Sephiroth may spare you a few seconds to catch your breath...during the cutscene. Sephiroth is wildly aggressive, which allows few chances to strike at him. Your best bet on defense is have around 4 to 6 elixirs with you while being aware of the action command button when the screen turns dark. This is your only chance to go on a full-scale offensive, as Sephiroth loves his range and combos! Be very wary of his special attack, the Sid Harvest Angel, which will drain all of your magic and leave you with one HP. This is where the elixirs come in handy. The most important abilities on defense are Second Chance, Once More, Defender, and Leaf Bracer.
EVASION: Sephiroth may boast great range, strength, and abilities, but there are a few key ways to avoid the bloodbath of his blade. This is where the support abilities come in. Gained from leveling up the drive forms, they give Sora full-usage of all of the abilites. The most important support skill for evasion is the glide. After jumping, press and hold square to glide away from Sephiroth as he initiates a combo. Then he can't reach you while he's comboing. The Quick Run ability also helps in evading if you get caught in a combo, but Glide is most effective. As for his second attack with the blue orbs, they will continue to follow you around the battlefield until you destroy them. Either attack them to destroy them or use the Aerial Dodge to blow them away once they converge on Sora. NOW, as for SID HARVEST, there IS a way to stop Sephiroth from using it. You need a combination of High Jump and Aerial Dodge, both at LV. 3 or higher, to reach Sephiroth while he's casting it in the air. This will cause him to be caught off guard. Then go for a massive aerial blitz combo.

Overall i think you did really good but i have to ask: What level were you when you did this fight? My first try was at lv50, I failed. I tried again at lv70, Failed. Then at lv80 like i said before, 4 tries till i won.

I believe level...86 or something very close to that. There were some abilities I didn't have equipped which could've helped. It is very possible to win at level 70, but you have to be nearly flawless evasively.

I beat him on Proud Mode at lv80. I maxed all my forms and had the Ultima Weapon. I went into battle with only 6 High Potions. I'm not saing it took me 1 try (About 4 actually) but nonetheless he's not that hard.

Not having the Ultima Weapon really crippled me, because after a while I realized there was a certain item that I had no possibility of getting...lol. If you counter Sid Harvest you only need a few Hi-Potions like with you, but since I'm terrible I needed elixirs lol.

That cutscene with "darkness" and "light" just seems to be something they threw in there to give it a disney feel. I never saw any other direct mention to it in other games involving Sephiroth, unless I'm mistaken?

I agree. I don't think it really has anything to do with the story from the original because Cloud and Sephiroth already settled their score in VII.
