Bob Hayward w/Buddy Baker Sextet did it back around 1945 on Exclusive Records. A handful of people/groups did it 'before' Cadillacs in '54. Mills Brothers even tackled it. Bob is the earliest I know of

Does anyone know who first recorded this? Was it the Cadillacs? Every doo-wop group if their worth their salt covers this, I was just wondering about the origin of this song, when it first started. Does anyone know out there?
