i met a woman who have 6 kids and her kids was always in the street and sitting outside her house until she will get home and i used to hate that. they didn't have a father in the house and they used to wear hand me downs. until i became friends with her son larry and i took them out to eat and brought them brand new clothes. then i married their mother and she had 4 for me i became the father of 10 kids and they are all grown up my kids love me i made sure they had everyting they ever wanted

Wow!!! Watching the movie Claudine and listening to this song just proves that nothing has changed in over 4 decades when it comes to welfare. Jobs Not welfare is still our ( most black people's) protest.

Gladys is an awesome singer and what a beauty! The Pips added a lot of vocal color to these records. There was no mistaking their sound. Curtis Mayfield blazed major R&B trails that haven't been pursued to their conclusions. Bring back music.

Now this is classic. The Curtis Mayfield sound that made soul music so memorable. He was a head of his time. If only he could see the plight of the hood now. They never heard the message in this song. Telling the "government" to say away from me. I can do this without you. Social commentary from a genius song writer. Only James Brown said it better. "I Don't Want Nobody To Give Me Nothin, Just Open Up the Door, I'll Get it Myself! No truer words.
