When you try and bind the hose to the straw, the program is binding the two ends of the hose to the pivot point in each straw. It seems that for you, the pivot points within the straight tubes were automatically set to the bottom. To change this, select one of the straight segments, go the the "Hierarchy" tab in the Command Panel, click "Affect Pivot Only" and move the pivot point to where you want the hose to connect. Don't forget to UNcheck Affect Pivot Only, then change your next pivot! :-)

i had the same problem and after reading some comments and analizing, remember to build the tube from top to bottom, so the pivot apears on the top of the tube and not the bottom. : D cheers
