The reason for him playing on the one and three was because of Tom Dowd.

The yardbirds for your love

accurately said, Baker couldn't play it twice the same way as well - thanks for the break down

haha that black dot on your wall kept confusing me, I kept trying to wipe it off of my screen!

I am a guitarist and I've wondered how & why the drums in this song are different. You explained well. You capture the spirit of the song. I don't know what a drummer is doing, only whether it sounds good or not. I couldn't care less if it is "note for note" from the recording. Thanks for the video.

@TimBrianLaraLatham1 Yeah, they're pretty big. I'm just experimenting with new sizes at the moment. They're fun to play though!

@TimBrianLaraLatham1 Can't help but feel you're trying to bust my balls a little here Tim :) That's cool though. Yes, Ginger used four toms but most don't have access to a full four tom set up. The way I've taught it allows most drummers to have a go with their more modest set ups. The number of toms aren't important at the end of the day. The sticks are Thomas Lang Signature sticks. Thanks for your interest.

@TimBrianLaraLatham1 Ginger played it differently live right? So we agree on that at least. I have taught the way he played it on the "recording" and not how he played it live. He improvised a lot live being a Jazz drummer at heart (this is explained in the video). I also think you've taken my throw away comment about Ginger not being able to play the same thing twice a little too seriously. Of course he could if he wanted too but as you say, he chose not too. can you make a drum lesson of 'in the end' by linkin park, please.I know it's old,but i've just found it :).....

cool :D
Rob, Thank you, thank you, thank you, for explaining that it's not essential to nail exactly what is played on a recording and going so far as, what I've believed, that even the person who drummed on the recording wouldn't likely play it exactly the same either. Great lesson as always. I'm thinking of covering this one.

@rhythmantic No problem mate, I'm pleased that you share my opinion on this. A lot of my drum pupils get tied up over the tiniest little details in a song, a ghost note here, an extra kick there, these things do not matter. As long as the main parts are there then you can fill in the details later. I'll look forward to hearing your version of this tune as well! :) Rob
