A Deadly Fight Between the IDF and Lebanon's Army

Short summery of the deadly incident in Israel's northern border with Lebanon on August 4th 2010. Fighting erupted between the Lebanese Armed Forces and the IDF, after the a Lebanese sniper shot dead one Israeli officer and wounded another. The two were part of a small IDF force that was on a tree cutting mission. Between the 'blue line' (the internationally recognized border between Israel and Lebanon) and the security fence. Israel retaliated, killing three Lebanese soldiers and an unlucky journalist.
The Lebanese of-course claim that Israel provoked the attack but even UNIFIL denied that accusation.
this incident shows how Shi'ite Islam forces are getting stronger and stronger in Lebanon as does Iran's and Syria's political control over the Lebanese government and their strong military presence both by their proxy -- Hezbollah and by a growing number of Shi'ite Muslims in the Lebanese Army itself, which historically was usually predominantly Christian and Druze.

The Blue Line is based on the deployment of the IDF prior to March 14, 1978. It should not be confused with the Green Line, established in 1949
