Kasha & Aaron (kashamusic.com), from the concert/discussion at Reuter Center on the UNCA campus, March 29th 2009. "Refuge" is composed by cellist/guitarist/songwriter/composer Aaron Coffin (copyright 2009), and includes several different sections varying from "exactly-notated" to "freely-improvised over a chord base." At this point in the concert, we were talking with the audience about the varied starting points, compositional methods, instrumentation choices, etc of our music, and this piece offered a combination of Aaron's personal emotional/narrative genesis, his highly contrasting sections ranging from somber to rhythmic to free-flight, and a new age jazz approach.
