Outing closeted gays and bisexuals (is there such thing as a closeted transvestite?) gave thousands of people something interesting to do for decades prior to 2008. Van Johnson died late that year. They could have offered proof of his sex life when he was alive. They figured an old man can fight back better than a dead man. He was taking care of himself at his Manhattan home on 09/11/2001. Little did he know the Internet is more harmful to certain people than a hijacked Boeing 767.

Van Johnson was married to the same woman for 21 years. Recycling garbage from Wikipedia and a United Kingdom newspaper (the English gossip more about elderly and dead Americans than Americans do) insults the memory of these two people who were apolitical and harmless.

Whether he was or wasn't, in the end, was nobody's business but his and God's. What he definitely was, was a very talented, charming performer, of the sort you rarely see anymore.

I met him after a summer theatre show at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine, when I was a kid. He was a charming, nice guy and he was hilarious in the play. Very underrated actor.

I think Van Johnson is the most underrated actor of all time. His work in Battleground was outstanding.
I have enjoyed every movie I have seen him in and only wish we had an actor today a little like him.
