A slide show, with a mix of videos and pictures. We did a snow camping trip to the south side of Mt St Helens in the South Cascades in Washington State in February 2011.

It was our second snow-camping trip.

We parked at a snow park, and skied about 1 1/4 mile to the site, carrying some of the gear in our backpacks, and pulling the heavier gear, including all the firewood, on sleds.

It was another great learning experience.

  • I like your video. I've never seen a sleeping layout like that. If you are into igloos and want to try another method for building them, check out my own igloo building video here on my page.

    Stay frosty,

  • @PineMartyn I checked out your video - nice concept! Easy way to build it. We don't have any snow hardly ever in the valley, so I gotta hike up to the mountains for my igloos :) So I am nut sure I want to add extra weight to my load. Well, maybe those forms are lightweight.

  • I love these snow camping videos

  • @breakingfreeoz Yeah - I hope I will do some snow camping this coming winter too! Maybe I will try tenting although I love igloos, they are so cozy :)

I can appreciate not wanting to burden yourself with extra weight when hiking into the mountains. The Icebox is compact & weighs 4.92 lbs (less if you don't bring the extra poles for all sizes of igloo). Its inventor, Igloo Ed, is a rather remarkable mountain hiker who regularly camps in igloos in Rocky Mountain National Park , so he designed it for its portability. At under 5 lbs, the Icebox weighs less than a winter tent by quite a long way.

    Thanks for subscribing!
