@ClutchKlutz I see where you are going with this. I'm going to try my best to explain. Well, you are never quite sure that you will hit the wicket. You have to come up with ideas to deceive the batter/batsman or lead him to making a mistake to get through his defenses and get him out. I hope I helped you.

@ClutchKlutz Firstly, I believe that one of the major reasons cricket is seen as very popular is that it is the national sport of India - 1.2 billion people (or something like that). Then it is also played in many other countries in some form. The "leg before wicket" rule is judged by the umpire who is standing at one end. There is also several technology replays which can plot the trajectory of the ball etc. Sometimes this tech is used, sometimes not - depends on agreement of both sides.

@ClutchKlutz During run, any fielder (even the one wicket keeper behind the stumps) can run someone out by throwing down the wickets. The batsmen who is out is the one who is running toward that wicket. If a batsmen attempts to hit the ball when a fielder throws it onto the pitch (during a run) then this is deemed as an obstruction and the player would be given out. They must not interfere with the incoming ball intentionally. Hope this helps!

I have some questions about the rules, if somebody would please answer them.
What happens if during mid run a fielder throws the ball at the wicket and knock it down? Is it ruled an out or only bowler can do that? If it's an out, which runner is out? The one running from or to the wicket? What if a fielder throws the onto the pitch and the batter during mid run hits it back and out of the field? Are they then awarded 6 runs on top of their current runs or just the 6 runs?

I'm an American.
English Football/Soccer is the most watched sport in the world, no argument there. I hear Cricket is somehow second. I can understand rest of the world not favoring American Football, but I suppose the rest of the world doesn't like baseball, basketball, hockey, boxing or golf either? I've learned the rules and it all seems so delicate. How do you even know if it would've hit the wicket, if it hits the batter first? It all just doesn't seem very clear...

@ludocrat interesting fact as regards Babe Ruth 1330 strikeouts, 714 home runs.
-
baseball is not as popular as cricket in the world
-
cricket is probably one of australias most popular sports...
-
@aussiefox in that case.....cricket is not popular in australia at all
@Myiuth145 actually my american wife thinks cricket is like watching grass grow or paint dry , which sounds pretty boring to me.... Look baseball is a great game and takes a lot of skill. Look Cricket is a great game and takes a lot of skill. See the similarities in those sentences? oh and by the way there is more cricket played by adults in the USA then there is in Australia over 700 cricket clubs across the country. USA has one of the largest fan bases of cricket in the world also.

@dabbuji1 So golf, not a hard sport to learn? the conclusion you draw is hard to backup with fact.
FACT: the reason Cricket is not the #1 team sport worldwide ( it is #2 though) is due to the fact that the British commonwealth countries wouldn't let anyone else into the elite levels to play until 1965.
