@2monte78 The player licks his finger tip and runs it across the drum head. The moisture on the finger creates friction on the head. Since the finger cannot move smoothly over the head it bumps along so quickly that it creates a vibration. It is the same reason that glass squeaks when you clean it and a violin sings when you run the bow across the string :)

The sound he made at 4:06 and 6:30 after licking his finger is called a "moose call" and I have read can best be promoted by applying bees wax to the drum head. Can't see clearly enough but he possibly has synthetic heads on the bongos which might produce a higher tone.

There is another drumming going on.. so cant figure out which is which, can you do another video without that? it feels weird the guy not in there.. is it a playback or sequencer? or did it edit the sound in? Would like to see a vid playing solo

This is my favorite bongo video as of August 2011. This guy has a style that seems different from all of the more Latin oriented players. I like how his sounds are varied and more noticeable than most other players. I'm hoping to develop more varied tones with the bongos so that it is just more fun to hear and play.
