Mr. Amagasa Keisuke gives a talk at the Shodanren Consumer Conference in Tokyo, Japan (071120).
He is concerned about GMO foods entering into Japan from abroad without proper labels. He recently met with Australian farmers, whose rape seed (canola) is exported to Japan. They have kept a moratorium against GMO and Japanese consumers want them to continue this policy. He also notes that the organizations representing farmers seem to care more about profit than about consumers...
While flying over Australia, Amagasa-san noted large white spots. Western Australia is the worst affected state in Australia in terms of salinity (salt) making farming increasingly difficult.
At this Tokyo conference the effects of a Free Trade Agreement between Australia and Japan were also discussed, especially how Japan's food security may be affected.
