At the beginning of the Great Depression, only about 10% of rural America had access to electricity. There was a great struggle between the vested private interests in the non-regulated electric utility industry, and those who wanted to move the country forward. Finally, after years of economic struggle and political gridlock, the country embarked on a major project to electrify the rural countryside. This was a vital part of the New Deal, and helped bring the United States out of the Depression. And the electricity produced by this effort helped the U.S. win World War II, by powering the factories which produced the aircraft, ships, and tanks which were vital in the war effort.

Today, there are two billion people on the planet without access to electricity or clean water, living on less than a dollar a day. Many live in areas where some of the most vital resources are located for creating the machines and infrastructure for sustainability. It takes tons of steel to produce a wind turbine. While copper, aluminum, silver and other metals are also essential components of building a sustainable world. Coincidentally, seventy five percent of the copper producing regions of the world are within transmission proximity to solar power resources. Globally, the estimated capital cost to make the conversion to sustainability is approximately 2% of global gross domestic product over a thirty year period. About $50 trillion dollars US.

This film, the capstone of the Oil Addiction Cure ™ series, will go around the world to examine what is already happening and planned for a Global Green New Deal. From the wind power off the shores of Great Britain; to the solar power of the Sahara Desert; the geothermal power of the Rift Valley of East Africa; Solar Power of the Namibian Desert; wind power off the Cape of South Africa; hydroelectric power of the Congo River; solar, wind and geothermal power of South America; solar power of the western Australian desert; and the wind and solar power of Asia. This film will include interviews with the change makers, energy ministers, and heads of state in these critical areas on the planet, and give us all cause to embrace the idea of a Global Green New Deal.
