Gary Blore, District 13 commanding officer and Ancient Albatross, and Senior Chief Petty Officer Peter MacDougall, the enlisted Ancient Albatross,currently stationed at the Coast Guard Academy, speak about the importance of aviation in the Coast Guard and in Alaska during a formal ceremony celebrating the Centennial of Naval Aviation and the 70th anniversary of military presence in Kodiak at Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak June 15, 2011.

The Ancient Albatross Award was instituted in 1966 to honor the Coast Guard aviator on active duty holding the earliest designation in aviation while in pursuit of the time-honored Coast Guard duties.
