  • We actually just swapped the struts/mounts/springs to my husband's car, a 2001 Sunfire GT & he hasn't said anything about the noise following over to his car. The Sunfire that this was recorded on isn't driven much anymore & it spends most days sitting, we're looking to get rid of it. Not sure I'll be able to give any updates!

  • you take it to the local shop ? and find out what it is

  • @OntarioMan69

No we haven't taken it to a shop. We're pretty handy fixing most problems once we figure out what the problem is. We're going to be checking to see if it's the bushings as soon as we can find some time. This hasn't really been much of a priority, especially since I have another car to drive if the problem gets worse.

  • @stargrrrl ohh understandable and ya another car sounds good :p what year is that i just picked up a 97 sedan for 300.00 and nothings wrong with it expect the engine knocks but i got my 1999 2.2L im swapping so

  • @OntarioMan69

It's a 1999 2.4 with about 101,xxx miles. Good luck with your swap!

  • Thinking not a strut mount. We just replaced them about a month ago - again. I've gone through about 4 or 5 strut mounts in the past 5 years, never had one make this sound. Thinking it may be an axle at this point due to other things going on.

  • I know what that nois is....unfortunately your car is haunted...

  • let me know what you find to be the problem. i have the exact same noise coming from my driver side front wheel and i can feel the vibration strongly when i place my hand on the strut mount and turn the wheel. it sounds like metal on rubber squeaking/creaking noise. noise is much worse when turning to the left. i figure it may be the strut mount, control arm bushings or steering linkage. i'll probably take it back to the shop to get sorted as it's still under warranty. it's really annoying!

  • well now looking at this video it might just be the strut mount...
