I must say Paul that your observatory and telescope are quite extrodenary. I'm a fairly new amateur astronomer with a 4.5" reflector which now carries a simple 18.6m Polaroid that I macgyverd on its 6mm eyepiece. Obviously it's not as intricate as your set-up but it does produce some well defined lunar captures. In time I hope my observational setup as well as my love for astrophotography surpasses the use of a simple hand held camera and a non electronic equatorial mount.
Paul, working your pedestrian mobile 14.061MHz CW from 13k ft on Pike's Peak today was the first nice surprize -- your observatory also very fine. PS-Steve: GREAT documentary! FIVE stars to both you guys!!
7:28 is an equatorial fork mount - not a German equatorial mount (they are something else entirely). 73 and 'Hi' to the Goats! from VK2GOM / G0MOH also an astronomer
that was really nice to see, I have my own homebrew observatory with a 6 inch dobb, its interesting how many hams are also into astronomy

Nothing has to be new and shiny - as long as it works well or can be fixed.
