Yes, vnc is one of the most important tools in the computer user's arsenal. I've been using vnc for even window to window things. It's just easier than getting up and walking to the other end of the house. Too bad the update rate is slow and video/games dont render over vnc.
Just yesterday I was using two linux boxes through vnc, on my windows desktop.
(I was transfering files from my old box to my new box, using windows as a medium)
