  • Could be wrong but I thought it closed to traffic in 1970 not 1973.

  • Two such bridges remain, alive and well— and still carrying regular rail traffic—on the Ashington, Blyth & Tyne line. Whilst Derbyshires Bennerley Viaduct is the longer at 1,420 yards, Ashington Black Bridges 85 feet above the water and Bebside Bridges 80 feet knock Bennerleys 60 feet into a cocked hat.
