Roger Dean Miller (January 2, 1936 -- October 25, 1992) was an American singer, songwriter, musician and actor, best known for his honky tonk-influenced novelty songs. His most recognized tunes included the chart-topping country/pop hits "King of the Road", "Dang Me" and "England Swings", all from the mid-1960s Nashville sound era.
Artist: Roger Miller
Words and Music by Bobby Russell

Lyrics:
And I wake up in the mornin'
With my hair down in my eyes and she says "Hi"
And I stumble to the breakfast table
While the kids are goin' off to school...goodbye
And she reaches out 'n' takes my hand
And squeezes it 'n' says "How ya feelin', hon?"
And I look across at smilin' lips
That warm my heart and see my mornin' sun

And if that's not lovin' me
Then all I've got to say

God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And there's no such thing as Doctor Seuss
Or Disneyland, and Mother Goose, no nursery rhyme

God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And when my self is feelin' low
I think about her face aglow and ease my mind

Sometimes I call her up at home knowin' she's busy
And ask her if she could get away and meet me
And maybe we could grab a bite to eat
And she drops what she's doin' and she hurries down
To meet me
And I'm always late
But she sits waitin' patiently and smiles
When she first sees me
'cause she's made that way

And if that ain't lovin' me
Then all I've got to say

God didn't make little green apples
And it don't snow in Minneapolis when the winter comes
And there's no such thing as make-believe
Puppy dogs, autumn leaves 'n' BB guns

FADE

God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis

  • Roger Miller reminds me a little (on this song), of Harry Nilsson. Who is a reknown songwriter but is also known for some silliness (Lime in the Coconut). I grew up in Elk City, OK about 35 mi. E. on I-40 from Erick, OK. Erick is 7 mi. E.of the Texas panhandle. It's a 1 square mile town that boast 2 main streets, Roger Miller Blvd & Sheb Wooley Ave.. Sheb was Western actor but also the writer of the tune Purple People Eater.

  • if this song doesnt bring a tear to your eye, i dont know what will.

  • I'd have to say my favorite version is Dean Martin's.... wow what a voice.

  • @phonophanatic78rpm For me sounds like HONEY by Bobby Goldsboro, dontcha??

  • Much as I love Roger Miller, I definitely prefer the Liv Maessen version.

  • the purest and most simple love song ever. just beautiful!!

  • Woke up this morning with this song in my head. Memories!

  • This is the first and best lyrical interpretation of this song. As a genius songwriter, Roger Miller understood how to delivery a song. He didn't write this one, but he sure knew how to make it his own.

  • I remember singing this with the missus on the beach doing a little Moon-dancing.

  • roger for this song
