Siren is a feature film project, an imaginative, psychological thriller that refers to and cites sea adventure classics, from Conrad to Homer. It's an award-winning script too. To write Siren, Bonecchi-Borgazzi who has always written the scripts of his short films availed himself of the assistance of a promising young writer, Simona Fiori. Italo-English scriptwriter Liana Dognini, who won a nomination at BAFTA for the script of Morvern Callars, on the other hand collaborated as script editor.
The script of Siren (Elle, the song of the siren) won the special judges award at the BAFF film festival 2003 within the sphere of the national screenplay competition.
The jury, chaired by director Carlo Lizzani and made up of the director Piccioni, scriptwriters Italo Moscati, Suso Cecchi DAmico and Furio Scarpelli, presented the award to Seiren for the following reason:
Imagination has always been one of the fundamental ingredients of cinema, and it is also the best quality of this script.
Its pressing pace and the Conrad style of ambiguity of the characters expertly tell a psychological thriller story, combining action with sensuality.
Looks like a beautiful and intruiging film. Naturally, the Italian language sounds sensual, but for those who don't speak it- is there a version with English subtitles?
