Here is my arrangement of Poupée de cire, poupée de son. Serge Gainsbourg wrote the song, and France Gall took it to victory in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965. The song was a hit and has since been recorded in many versions and languages, but I doubt that anyone ever will surpass Gall's stunning Eurovision '65 performance of the song.

The organ is a Clavia Nord C1 - a Hammond B-3 clonewheel organ.

Nord C1 Registrations and Settings:
Upper 88 8000 000. No Chorus. Percussion On, Soft, Fast, Third.
Lower 80 8000 000. Not used.
Bass lower manual 70.
Leslie simulator Slow position.
Equalizer Treble -5dB, Mid -5dB, Bass 0dB.
Overdrive/Drive Off.
Reverb Hall, Soft, 40%.
Tonewheel mode Vintage 2 (high level of tonewheel crosstalk and cable leakage artefacts).

The sound is recorded line out from the organ. No additional external effects, external amplifiers or speakers are used.

  • Rounder,

I live in Chicago and some musicians started to pay the clubs to play in the 1980s. I coudn't believe it. In the end it's up to you. Music doesn't have the same value as it did during all of the decades in the Twentieth century leading up to the 1980s. Illegal free downloads and less pay for musicians are a sign that people don't value music as they should. You know that I appreciate your talent and work ethic. You and others like you deserve to be paid.

  • Thanks 55vida!

The soul jazz organ trio is one of the best vehicles for building a groove, and it's great fun!

Well, so much to do and so little time.

Never play for free... It depends on the goal, but still I can't help of thinking of a friend of a friend of mine who had a standard reply when he was asked to a gig: 'How much do I owe you?'

That maybe is a true picture of the bottom line in the balance sheet regarding monetary income vs expenditures :-)

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder
