It was meant to unify Afghanistan - the Kabul to Kandahar Highway.

But having spent hundreds of millions of dollars relinking Afghanistan's two largest cities, the United States has lost control of the road to the Taliban.

And what was meant to be a symbol of triumph, is now one of the most dangerous roads in the country.

  • You cannot expect a country like Afghanistan that has been crumbling and ignored for decades to be repaired in such a short space of time. It will take a complete generation for real change to occur.

Having said that the completely wrong approach is being taken in the country.

  • American military failure. What the h were they thinking to occupy Afghanistan? They should have performed a police action, captured Bin Laden after 9-11 and a few others responsible, brought him to justice, and that's it. Occupying a country like Afghanistan or Iraq is doomed to failure.

  • My friend (nicolash12345678), the reporter said: hundreds of millions of dollars... why don't you listen

  • True said paulog

  • Made with Pakistan cement.

  • hes right afghanistan was a terroist breeding ground and right know if we fail that means more terrorist attacks and more innocent civilians dead but the wars cost us so much are tactics need to be changed and defense of certain areas like this highway should be top piority and i dont believe the us would use civilians as shields thats against the geneva code taliban are more likely to do that

  • look at pashtons talibans terrorists !

  • Um, then why are people using this road. Before they had dirt roads which they can use the surrounding terrain. I see a lot of people using it in this video, then i would guess people are not that much against it. If you use it they like it more than the dirt roads.

  • its not true - im from afghanistan - and there is more car and traffic - alot more than taliban time - and the road is not save becuase taliban and drags - but it was not saved in taliban time too

  • umm you can't compare the Iraq war to Afghanistan, Afghanistan was a just and legal war; America saved Afghanistan from the terrorist criminals. Iraq is a different story.
