No-end run around the rules by activist judges or grandstanding San-Francisco-style politicians.

4. Whats the harm from SSM? How can Adam and Steve hurt your marriage? A: Who gets harmed? The people of this state who lose our right to define marriage as the union of husband and wife, thats who. That is just not right. A: If courts rule that same-sex marriage is a civil right, then, people like you and me who believe children need moms and dads will be treated like bigots and racists. Religious groups like Catholic Charities or the Salvation Army may lose their tax exemptions, or be denied the use of parks and other public facilities, unless they endorse gay marriage." Public schools will teach young children that two men being intimate are just the same as a husband and wife, even when it comes to raising kids. When the idea that children need moms and dads get legally stigmatized as bigotry, the job of parents and faith communities trying to transmit a marriage culture to their kids is going to get a lot harder. One thing is for sure: The people of this state will lose our right to keep marriage as the union of a husband and wife. Thats not right.

5. Why do you want to interfere with love? A: Love is a great thing. But marriage isnt just any kind of love; its the special love of husband and wife for each other and their children.

6. What about benefits? Dont gay couples and their kids need the benefits and protections of marriage? A: If medical proxies arent working, lets fix that problem. If people need health care, lets get them health care. Dont mess with marriage. A: The issue isnt benefits, it is marriage. Local folks can decide benefits. This is about the meaning of marriage, our most basic social institution for protecting children.

7. Isnt divorce the real threat to marriage? A: High rates of divorce are one more reason we should be strengthening marriage, not conducting radical social experiments on it.

8. Are you saying gays cannot be good parents? A: Two men might each be a good father, but neither can be a mom. The ideal for children is the love of their own mom and dad. No same-sex couple can provide that.

9. What about older or infertile couples? If they marry why not same-sex couples? A: Every man and woman who marries is capable of giving any child they create (or adopt) a mother and a father. No same-sex couple can do this. Its apples and oranges.

if you're against gay marriage, don't marry someone of the same sex. it's really rather simple and it baffles me that some people just don't accept that. if you want the government to ban something, you had better have ACTUAL evidence of detrimental effects of that thing.

I'm not against gay marriage for any of the reasons above...

I'm against gay marriage for the same reasons that I'm against straight marriage.

Because it's an evil institution that has no place in modern society.

The religious institutions that fight gay marriage are the same ones that fought against abolition, civil rights, proper school education, etcetera. Hopefully the United States doesn't take two hundred more years to give gay people their well deserved privilages. Dozens of philosophers, economists, and other great thinkers have always said that the fastest and most effective way to build a better society is to give women power. I have a strong inclination that the second best is power to gays.

The right of "marriage" or civil union or what-not is guaranteed in the fourteenth amendment. The fact that anti gay people think they can quote mine terms like "right" is just rediculous.

Same-sex parenting has been around, long before the United States came along. Look at African tribes. Yes even the ones where some of our black friends and families come from. They have gay members in these tribes who play a very important role; such as, caring for the children while the other adults tend to other issues for their community. So same-sex parenting as been around for a very long time. And in some communities around the world, it is priced and well respected.

We should just make "marriage" be only given by churches. Make everyone have only civil unions...including straights. If someone wants to get "married" then they can do that at a church. Just like the state doesnt give a Bar Mitzvah, for example.

Much like pro-lifers, anti-gay marriage groups don't care about the kids. If pro-lifers really gave a damn about children they would be adopting them and taking care of these adopted kids. Same with the Anti-gay bigots. If they actually did this i doubt they would have time to sit and complain about other peoples love lives. Although, it's probably better that they don't. The less children these bigots can brainwash during childhood the better. (and yes this is Bill Hick's viewpoint.)
