@makkool I wouldn't say the Boers were "idiots"(!) - they were pioneers in the same vein as all European pioneers, brave, resilient, hardy, though often of fringe religious or societal groups. The international investment (of its time) certainly came with the British Empires involvement but, were the Brits & others NOT involved, the Boer would still have made a flourishing nation, though Rhodesia etc. would never have existed without the impetus to keep moving northward, away from British rule.

@bcfsl Actually you're half right, I am broke most the time, the problem is that banks lent me TOO much money in the past. Luckily I work hard and know my limits so I can pay the buggers back & lead a good life. @barlog20 Sorry, SA was nowhere NEAR the level of civilisation of even developing nations in the 19th century, they may have been doing "fine", a few thousand people squatting in mud-huts, its just a fact of History that Europeans colonised the land and made it great. It seems your more immediate problem are the immigrants who still flood into SA, thinking its still rich. Do you believe SA would have reached such heights WITHOUT European intervention? Like everywhere else in Africa, right? ;)
