To vintagehoover-do you know how the cyclonic action works on this particular machine? I notice the design of the canister is a little different than a Dyson or other Vax machines. Is it dual cyclonic?

@JJ9715 It's just a simple conical cyclone with a central vortex-finder tube, which also acts as the shroud. It's not dual cyclonic, as there's only one level of separation. It works better than a traditional dustcup-and-filter-screen set-up, but it's not as efficient as a dual or multi-cyclonic design.

I was wondering if you could do a similar video of the dust cup. I find it very interesting due to the fact that this is a tapered cyclone yet the central tube that draws air in pulls it in from the outside instead of through the bottom like all other tapered cyclones. Why did they design it this way? Does it make a difference?

@6060nanaful They've simply added a shroud to the vortex-finder; it's a single-stage radix cyclone - almost the opposite of a filter-based bagless cleaner, which uses a one-stage low-efficiency cyclone.

Presumably it's the most efficient cyclone system they could use which worked with the airflow of a battery-powered cleaner.

@vintagehoover nice.... i've seen them here in the US as actual hoovers, kinda nice but not the favorite in my opinion. but obviously you like them being "Mr. Hoover" LOL :-p

@genmac1 They're a great little cleaner, especially for $199.99. I hope someone in the US gets one soon and tries it out, I'd love to see a video of the Hoover version!

@genmac1 Well, they're rather market-specific - the cyclonic upright is a little bulky and heavy for UK homes, and Vax already have the Mach multi-cyclonic upright range. Vax also have the Mach Zen and Mach 3 Powerhead multi-cyclonic canisters, so there's no real need for the Platinum canister.

@djkain2007 Thanks, I'm very impressed with it - as you can see, it can handle debris far worse than it would encounter in day-to-day use. And you get 12mins runtime with the brushbar on, which is plenty to go through several rooms. It's a great product!

@genmac1 Yup - although as far as I know, there aren't currently plans to introduce the uprights, or the canister from the Platinum range.

@U5096 Yup - over the last few years, huge advances have been made with battery, motor and cyclone technology. We now have much more power, more efficient motors which don't waste as much energy/runtime, and dust separation systems which don't choke off the suction. The future's bright, lol

@vacuumlover1 Vax haven't "taken" anything. Hoover US and Vax both share TTI as a parent company - thus, they're able to share products in both markets. The Vax Mach Air has just been launched in the US as the 'Hoover Windtunnel Air'.
