I decided to get a recording of Purdue's sirens during Indiana's statewide drill on March 5, 2008.

Sirens pictured are a 2T22 a couple blocks away on an academic building and a 3T22 probably a half mile away on top of a residence hall. Additional sirens heard are a T-bolt, 2001's, 2 more 2T22's, and an STH-10.

  • Hearing this was beautifull. All of the different federal signals just made it sweet. Now if they got some modulators in there I think everything else would kick there butts. lol.

  • Federal Signal actually came out here a couple years ago with a modulator to demonstrate its capabilities. Purdue was looking at their options in the wake of the Virginia Tech incident. They decided that the current sirens we have grab people's attention more than the modulators. As far as the voice capabilities, well now apparently our bell tower does that.

  • HEY! I saw on NOAA today a Tornado Warning was issued for Tipp. County in Indiana around 7:30 EST; did the Purdue University sirens sound?

  • i could not tell you for sure, as i am currently home for the summer and not in the lafayette area. however, they probably did go off. the sirens are activated by the county and not purdue, so whenever there is a warning for the area of the county that purdue is in, purdue's sirens will sound.

  • how often do they test up there?

  • first Saturday of the month at 11am. This was during "Severe Weather Awareness Week". On one day during this week the entire state has two tornado drills at the same time, one in the morning/early afternoon and one in the evening. I filmed this during the morning test during severe weather awareness week.

  • @amtrak3501 Are the 2T22's gone? I came back up US231 from TN and was gonna go by there, but it had just gotten dark.

  • stinks that the 2T22's are gone :(

  • I think the STH-10 is a single phase siren, that's why it probably sounds so low pitched

  • 3:12 the 2t22 vs the 2001 wind down

  • @bmeiser all those together sound sort of like a P-50 6 toned.

  • excellent!!! beautiful classic sirens, that sing the most beautiful song!!

  • excelent harmony

  • I love the ambiance, those old federals are real attention getters!

  • All the different classic sirens! ITs...beautiful! No electronic crap!

  • I love the Resonance Between the Two 2T22's. About 1 Hz Difference Makes it sound Absolutley Beautiful!
