  • It was the U.S.S. KIRK that took part in that mission. Operation "Frequent Wind". My dad Served aboard her during the last few years of the Vietnam War. Her designation then was DE-1087 She was a Destroyer Escort..DE . Most items that bear the name KIRK now are FF-1087. Same ship but she was refitted several years later and designate FF..Fleet Frigate. Either Way..She's a beauty, and lead the way in one of the biggest rescue missions of all time. God Bless the U.S. NAVY! :)
