I remember getting into a situation like this once when I was around 14 and my ride was a 19 year old girl who didn't realize or care that I was totally freaked out being surrounded by strange older guys flirting with me. I had no way of getting home and had to wait for hours till she finally decided to leave.

Fortunately it didnt happen everywhere. I was in NYC 1973-77 and was at most of the clubs including studio 54 where they did NOT make the noise. I think this was some producers idea of what a disco should sound like.
