Hokey-Pokey: Harmless Dance or Hypnotic Induction?

Is the Hokey-Pokey a harmless dance or a covert hypnotic induction?

Well, the answer may be both! Covert hypnosis goes by many names: covert hypnosis, conversational hypnosis, underground hypnosis, street hypnosis, black ops hypnosis, coversis, coversive hypnosis and probably many others. And while it is probably unintentional, the Hokey-Pokey actually DOES include many elements that are often present in coversis! Would Milton Erickson agree? Hard to say, but I'll bet he would! In coversis, the hypnotist must reduce or eliminate critical thinking, direct the subject's attention and focus, gain compliance, demonstrate authority using a combination of direct and embedded commands. All elements of a hypnotic induction... and all elements of the Hokey-Pokey! Silly? Yes. Accurate? Also yes. But you be the judge!
