One of the things that Battlestar never had enough of was humour. Not like a comedy, but like regular human beings trying to joke through tough times. SGU has the perfect amount of humour to offset the darkness. You can see that special type of Stargate sarcasm in lots of sci-fi shows like Supernatural, Farscape and even Firefly, all of which I liked more then Battlestar. Stargate deserves so much more for reinventing sci-fi television then your automatic judgement.

I hate all of these "holier-then-thou" Battlestar fans who assume that the next dark and gritty show is a continuation of their depressing hour of doom. SGU isn't related to Battlestar in any way, its continuing the legacy of a more successful, longer running and more widely loved franchise: Stargate. I liked Battlestar, but I never got to loving it because everyone in it is so depressed all the time. You can't be human and be so sad and hopeless without going more then a bit insane.

@Simpsonsfreak1134 I completely agree. I hadn't watched BSG before, and having heard all the "it's just like BSG" stuff about SGU, I decided to check it out. BSG is so dark it makes SGU look like a waltz through Narnia.
