Changing the lifters and rockers on my 96 LT1 engine.
Proform full roller rockers 1.6 ratio and LS7 lifters.

Full description on how to do that, how to find TDC etc is available on fully recommended www.shbox.com
The actual link for valve adjustment is:
http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#adjust_valves

I have a 3rd gen Firebird so it was very easy job as I don't have half of the engine under the windscreen as 4th gen do.

  • what band is that? lol

  • @Sickness796 MACHINE HEAD Love them :)

  • @Paulv8terror i have lifter knock on my 96 caprice 9c1 and i want to pull off my valve covers and check for loose rocker arms, when i do that do i just wiggle them and if they are loose tighten them accordingly?

  • @Sickness796 I would suggest to make it loose a bit and then tighten it up. As you can see on 1:36 the pushrod is loose. At some point you will feel it's not moving anymore - 1:50. That's the moment you have tight up the nut about 1/4 turn. Job done. Make sure every single valve you are adjusting - the lifter is on the base lobe. The easiest way is to have the intake manifold off so you can actually see the lifters. With valve covers off just turn the crank till valve is not moving (base lobe).

  • a little commentary on what you are doing would definately be helpful :)

  • @harleyguy1233 Yes, I know. I'll do it some time in future. I meant to do it ages ago :)

  • Proform, has a bad record, but just bc someone uses proform, doesn't mean bad results.... A recently passed away friend used and still has them on his 700 hp 383 stroker. Truck has a .630 lift, been in at least 300 races. I agree they are cheap, but they aren't as bad as ppl make them out to be. And the 1/8 turn statement, the instructions say 1/4 turn.

  • What Opti are you using?

  • How long till the engine grenaded? Your lashing them, as if a backyard mechanic would. As for the final 1/4 turn before locking the rockers, its usually only 1/8 turn, at most!

  • Proform rockers are total garbage. It's just a matter of time before they fail, not if. If you value your engine, you'll get some better rockers in there ASAP.

  • Get that lousey music off of there it sucks

  • I'm changing valve springs , do i need to remove the intake ? or just the valve covers ? if i remove the rockers , is there anything i do with them or just bolt them back in ?
