According to this movie, an Asian man & white woman can only have a relationship in a very odd situation alone in the wilderness, the Japanese guy is made to look exotic and keep focussing on his racial difference, and when he finally takes the initiative he is suddenly killed off.. Crap Orientalism. When are they going to show Asian men & white women in NORMAL relationships?

i just got done watching this movie and i have never been so mad at a movie so much. it was fine all the way up till he died. I kept thinking "okay, he's gonna wake up in a minuet. in a sec he'll wake up. or he's just playing a prank on her" but no HE'S DEAD!!!! whyyyyy

He broke his neck, spinal column... You die instantly as he did when he dove into shallow water. There was no saving him and she knew that and tried to warn him before he dove in. She yelled but he dove in anyway and this had to happen because the only other ending would have been just as sad. He would eventually return home to his wife and children. The reason white woman and Japanese men are not commonly in normal relationships is because American women are too liberated for Japnanese men.

He is so sexy and gorgeous. The movie was blah, but I kept watching because I loved him.

@acebiro i only switched the tv on half way thru this..... i was in a hotel in Brussels - will have to get the dvd out.....I was hooked on this film....maybe its because i love Australia and the outback!

@Prottimusic i saw this for the 1st time in my hotel room in Brussels just 2 nights ago. I was just flicking thru the channels then i came across this gem about 2/3 of the way thru it. I couldn't switch it off - i was knackered - but it got me hooked!! Am trying to find the DVD at a store!!
