The Mediator: Belonging and comfort are gained by attending to and merging with others and by dispersing energy into substitute objects. Attention naturally goes to others and to environmental claims.

  • @Ohcomeon369 One more...the other point is that the world sees patience and understanding as weaknesses. I think it is also helpful to blend Claire Graves' Spiral Dynamics model with this...because their are these different levels of being. Someone said George Bush was a Nine! But, if so he fits with the more traditional, literal thinking level of being...at that level, Nines more easily go to war perhaps. Obama fits more with the rational, & sensitive self levels...hence more thinking time.

  • @Ohcomeon369 I think you could be right! Anyhow, a healthy Nine is a strange sight to others! For example, healthy nines often accept people by actually understanding other people's positions...a bizarre sight to the more egoic levels of each type which want hell and more hell it seems. But, a healthy Nine, it seems to me, can also go on to DECIDE based on the incoming information. That is, they can still prioritize things and say no to this and yes to that. But, it often follows UNDERSTANDING.

  • @jhgosnell Media often chooses a picture of the Prez looking like he has his tongue tucked under his bottom lip (I wish he was more aware of that). Looks like he's literally "taking it on the chin". I'm old school (actually attended Arica intensive training '75). I still look at faces and where the tension is.. The Prez is very non-confrontational. The mediator. The conciliator. The oh, seemingly too willing to back down. I may be wrong. I thougt he was a 6 orignally. Ego cowardice.

  • @brikiss77 i agree, but I don't know if it is preventable. probably at first, it isn't...but as you go with a person, you can assert your own values and needs and have a more mature connection.

  • @Ohcomeon369 I always think of Obama as a four--very independent--nines seem more dependent to me.

  • so true!! always affected by people!! i guess i am really a type 9 person

  • We all have all types, but one is particular is fixated. Very un-Democratic! I am thinking this is Pres. Barack Obama's dilemma. I am not faulting him, just seeing his process. It is unlikely that anyone we elect into a positon of such power will be a whole and free individual. It is also unlikely that as WE are, we would know the difference. So the process goes. We are still on the Way to enlightenment. There is no other real alternative. Keep up the good work all.

  • i realized this was happening a while back and now i am a peace maker who won't be stepped on all of the time to have peace and i am learning to be more assertive

  • To me the worst part of being a nine by far is the unconscious merging.
