I have to say firstly, that i don't recall the source, so don't believe me if you're not ready to look it up yourself, but i recollect seeing a statistical study showing that Denmark in comparison to the USA also had something like a 70-80% lower rate of hypochondriacy vs. actual ilness when visiting doctors or hospitals!
Again, don't take my word for it, i'm reciting very sketchy memory at best!!

According to the Danish Ministry of Tax' webpage, the lowest bracket pays 39% taxes and the highest 52,5% (incl. AM). However, there can be added extra tax if your salery is very high. That being said, only a small amount of that is used for health care. The total amount of income tax covers much more than just health care - e.g. free colleges & universities (incl. monthly checks for students above the age of 18), social welfare, culture & art, pension, public transport, police & military, etc.

no you wrong i live in denmark and average is about 45% and you can not pay under 40 i think the highest taxes here is 55% and you can`t get over that

@Drlagger It's a good health care, but nothing is free..
we pay true our tax. and i don't know how old u are, but if your'e young or going to school its free, but for us who's working are paying taxes, i pay 39% tax.. and that's normal for most people, with a normal income..
so out of those 39% tax = close to 1150$ for me, they use abit on my health care, I've never had use for it yet!, but that will come someday maybe..
but we live happy and we can allways go see a doctor :)

@krumme81 You don't need to ;) If you really want we do have Private hospitals.

@Pungypaint your wrong again. the absolute maximum tax u can end up paying is around 60%. if you pay that tax. you are living good life! unless ur neck deep in debt, in which case you can still erfort house, car, holiday, cigarets and beer..
and your most likely earning that working around 40 hours a week. with 6 weeks of paid vacation a year

@AGFfans This is not quite true. because I'm in the lowest bracket, meaning I pay 46% percent by defualt, on average (everything considered) I believe it's 33%, however I do also have to pay extra for pretty much everything 25% for imported goods and even further tax for reasons not known to man.
if you earn more than 100k dollars a year you get to pay 60% and 400k dollars is around 70-80%

It's not possible to pay 80% income taxes in Denmark, worst case senario is around 59% but only of the last part of your income. The first US$ 7.600 you earn a year in Denmark is totally tax free. Then ther are different tax brackets, depending on how much more you earn, but the typical Danish worker pay somwhere around 36% taxes on average. If you you own your own business or is a top manager your taxes are typically around 42% on average.
