Sometimes, on a chat-show, the host and guest just MESH. Like Wogan and J.R. Or Parky and Miss Piggy. On this occasion, the chemistry was so palpable - for weeks afterwards, people were asking Frank if he'd NAILED Drew Barrymore's MUCH sexier Mum. Frank said NO.

@Sydney7440 Yeah. Jaid deflected her responsibility pretty deftly there. I was far too distracted by her general level of insanity to even catch that! Can't really blame Drew for dissociating herself from this woman for years at a time. The amazing thing is...as bad a mom as Jaid was, by comparison to abusive addict/alcoholic John Drew Barrymore she was the Parent Of the Year!

Pretty much, yeah. However, Drew *did* have a relationship (of sorts) with him during the last year of his life. She provided her vagabond father with a place to live, and paid his medical bills (until his death in 2004 from cancer. Very generous of her, all things considered.) She'd long since come to terms with the fact that they would never have a typical father-daughter relationship. "...he's not a dad. He's never provided me with anything. ...he's a taker, not a giver. But I accept that."
