All of the networks did "theme pieces" like these from the late 70's through the mid-late 80's. But when cable opened up more viewing choices, research showed these kind of (expensive) campaigns, while fun to watch, had little or no effect on viewership. People watched shows, not networks.

Anyone else think the Osmonds are from another planet...spooky on so many levels.

@therevphil To reply to my own post, I'll guess the actress at 0:04 is Roz Kelly...wasn't this the year she was all set to become a recurring character on Happy Days ("Fonzie Loves Pinky"), but she and the producers couldn't agree on contract terms, so she left the show?

@therevphil The actress at :41 is Barbara Cason who was appearing in "CARTER COUNTRY". Her other most significant role was that of Garry Shandling's mother on his self-titled show. In real life, she was married to actor who appeared in everything on American TV for thirty years, Dennis Patrick, until her early death at 61.

@ThankYouMrAcavano The guy at 0:26 is Freddy Washington (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs) from Welcome Back, Kotter.

The scene at 0:26 makes a black face minstrel show look politically correct!

I miss the network talent ensembles like this. Nowadays, you can't get all the network stars together for a nice little sing along without bankrupting a network. Back then, the stars got up and promoted the hell out of their network because they knew where the check was coming from.

Fun? Yeah! That's why I sought out this stuff and thought I'd never see it again. Thanks.

I remember those days well. I was 13 years old at the time. TV is not like it was back then. Now all you mostly see are reality shows and in my mind they really suck. Thanks for posting.
