Radio frequency interference from a transmitting Nokia 3500 cell phone causes an apparent blood alcohol concentration beyond 700 mg/100mls on an Intoxilyzer 5000 64 series product number 564 CA model similar to the Intoxilyzer 5000C used by police in Ontario Canada.

  • If you search "bisss2002" on Youtube you will see a number of examples of the bizarre effects of RFI on Intoxilyzers. The RFI detector on the Intoxilyzer 5000 64 series was designed in the early 1980's - when police used very different radio frequencies and cell phones weren't around. Yes there is an RFI detector in the breath tube but the antenna and circuitry don't work with every frequency of RFI. Shielding frequently has gaps due to post-factory maintenance or police opening of the cover.

  • Yes people, lets hold our phone beside the machine and blow.... does the lawyer realize these samples are taken on video?

  • The instrument has an RFI detector in the breath tube along with a shelding mechinisim. How do we know you didn't have any mouth alcohol from mouth wash? Be careful of lawyers people.
