B-24 Liberator heavy bombers of the 9th and 493rd Bomb Squadrons, 7th Bomb Group, 10th Air Force, prepare for takeoff from Pandaveswar Army Air Base, India, early on the morning of January 23, 1945. Shown taking off are the lead planes of each squadron, No. 27 and No. 50; No. 23 follows 27. Good views of each squadron's tail pattern. Objective was the great steel bridge at Kanchanaburi, Thailand, part of the infamous, prisoner-built Burma-Siam Railway. (The bridge's neighboring wooden bypass structure is sometimes mistakenly identified with the fictional "Bridge over the River Kwai.") Bad weather forced all bombers to turn back except No. 24, though its bombs missed the target! Photography by 10th AAF Combat Camera Unit. Source: Record Group 18, CS 3117, National Archives II. Copy is from original film converted to VHS then to VCD.

My Dad was a radio man and top turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator in North Africa and Italy during WWII. Thanks for posting this clip of these underrated and magnificent planes.
