Different types of games. Donkey Kong was a pioneering platform-jumper and Centipede was a track-ball based shooter. I play both in MameUIFX32 with an X-Arcade joystick. Centipede was more popular amongst women, btw. That's not saying it's a girl's game, but my wife can beat me at it and I'm pretty good.
