Dr. Richard Mabry, an experienced physician, church deacon, and devoted husband, discovered the end to his "ever after" when his wife of forty years died from a stroke. All of a sudden, Dr. Mabry found himself wondering, "when will this end?" and "is it normal to feel this way?"

This is video of Dr. Mabry's story of grief and healing, which he shared on the Harvest Show.

Searching for help, he discovered that many books about grief were difficult to connect with. In The Tender Scar: Life After the Death of a Spouse, Dr. Mabry establishes a bond between the reader and himself by opening up excerpts from his personal journals. He discusses the situations and feelings he encountered during the grief process.

  • I agree - if only grieving for a year or more could be done in a big effort and take two months, everyone would do that. Though I'm not a church person, the human side of grieving and healing shines through to me.

  • Great story and quite sad. At 2:09 the guest speaker began his somber statement about how the tough stages of grief can come back at varying intensities at different times and how it can ruin your relationship with God and ultimately drag you down. At 2:16 the female host chuckled at what the guest said. Also they could have given credit to him for his work and assigned a Prefix to his name. You know - like Dr. as in Doctor.

  • Wonderful story and very similar to mine. Elaine Williams
