Hi everyone :)
I made this video to document and teach people about the fishless cycle. If you dont already know what that is, it is a form of cycling, and instead of using a couple "hardy" fish, you use ammonia. Fish produce waste which is then turned into ammonia which is deadly to fish, bacteria eats the ammonia and turns it into nitrITES, which are also deadly. NitrITES are then turned into nitrATES which are still deadly to fish, but only in large amounts. Bacically using the fishless cycle you skip having the fish produce waste to create ammonia, you just add ammonia yourself. This speeds up the proccess of cycling your tank and also is nicer to the fish. Its very simple, if you didn't quite get it on the video, heres a step by step guide: http://www.wikihow.com/Do-a-Fishless-Cycle If you want to learn more about it juse search "fishless cycle" on google and there are many links that will come up. You will need ammonia (can be tricky to find, i got mine at Food Basics), test kits (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate), good to have filter material or gravel form established tank. I really believe this is a better, faster and more humane way to cycle your tank, and an added bonus, when your tank is completely cycled you will have a larger bacteria colony then cycling it with fish and you will be able to add more fish at once right away! Thanks for watching my video, hope more people will try this now!

  • OH MY GOSH!!! This has helped A LOT. This made it like totally EASIER for me to understand now lol... so I have a couple questions that I'd really appreciate you answering for me! So you should get gravel from a tank thats already been cycled, correct? And do you need a filter catridge from an already cycled tank? Thanks!

  • @Music4life1235678 I'm really glad to hear this helped you! A basic rule is the more seeded materials have from an eastablised tank the faster your tank will cycle. Because you have more bateria. so gravel from another tank put in to a nylon works really well. And if you have it, a catridge from an estalished take will help a lot too! hope this helps!

  • Thank you so much for your fast response! I will also do the same and leave the seeded media in the tank until I'm done cycling!! I'm almost done, I'm just waiting for my nitrites to drop to 0. Then, 70% to 80% WC, then test two days in a row; and then add one figure 8 puffer. BTY, I'm setting up my tank in brackish water with marine salt! Thanks once more :) any updates soon?

  • @BlackRedAlex Sounds like your doing an awesome job! Your tank sounds like its going to be really nice, and i know your fish will appreciate this. I have about nine fish in my tank now, im going to get a couple gouramis, and maybe a pair of angel fish. Once i've added those guys I hope to make another video. thanks for watching, and good luck :)

  • @stephaliouu8, one quick question; how long are you suppose to leave the seeded media in that tank for?? after you get 0 ammonia and nitrites? or until it cycles completely? Thanks

  • @BlackRedAlex I personally left the filter media in for about a week and left the gravel until my tank was cycled. I needed the filter for my other tank other wise i would have just left it in, it would only speed things up. I didnt need the gravel so i just left it in, but basically you just wanna help the bacteria colonalize.

  • thank you for the video loads of information :D

  • is it OK to add plants before you start the cycle or when its done since the plants will consume the ammonia?

  • you didn't tell us where to buy it...

  • @airmedics05 hahahaha keep up the good work you fuckin bum yup I may be a keyboard hero but it keeps me occupied criticizing others and irritates hard up for women homosexual faggots such as your self now have a great day hangin with Fernando and the crew you fuckin monkey.. Good day homo

  • @alrightythan1 Why the F would you even say something like that to someone just wanting to help others and be humane?? And you're e-thugging a girl??? Wow you're a real hard ass. Loser

  • I posted a link to your video on yahoo answers for someone who had a question about cycling. I hope that's ok with you. Very informative!

  • Gay please do not post anymore vids like this u daft minded bimbo

  • @seanlid123 The bacteria is naturally present in the enviroment, in water from wells, taps....(not sure about bottled water). The ammonia stimulates the bacterial response.... and the bacterial colony starts to feed on it...... producing Nitrites as a by-product..... you're well on the way to a cycled tank.
